Ubisoft announced today that it will join the Blender Foundation as a Gold Member. Even more good news is that Ubisoft also stated that they will assign some of their in house developers to contribute to Blender’s Open Source projects.
The department of Ubisoft doing this is the Animation Studio, which is a department of the Film and Studio division.
I have been following Open Source projects for over a decade now and I have never seen anything like the support we are seeing now. Clearly, the philosophy of open systems is dominating in a way even ardent supporters didn’t expect.
It will be very interesting to watch how the next decade unfolds as it concerns to paradigm shifts toward an unbeatable openness.
